Dog Issues
Itchy Skin
Many dogs suffer from itchy skin due to allergies, dryness, or environmental triggers. A soothing oatmeal bath or coconut oil applied topically can offer quick relief. Consider switching to a limited ingredient diet if food sensitives are suspected.
Ear Infections
Recurring ear infections may stem from yeast, moisture, or allergies. Clean ears gently with an apple cider vinegar solution (50/50 with water), but avoid this if the ear is red or raw. Keep ears dry after baths and swimming.
Upset Stomach / Diarrhea
Mild stomach issues can often be managed at home. Feed a bland diet like boiled chicken and white rice for 24-48 hours. Add a spoonful of pumpkin puree for digestive support.
Joint Pain / Arthritis
For aging or large-breed dogs, joint discomfort is common. Turmeric (in small doses) and omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil can help reduce inflammation naturally. Light, daily movement is important to keep joints limber.
Fleas & Ticks
Natural deterrents include diluted essential oils like cedarwood and neem (never apply undiluted). Diatomaceous earth sprinkled on bedding can kill fleas without chemicals. Always test natural solutions in small areas first.
Cat Issues
Hairballs
Hairballs result from frequent grooming. A teaspoon of coconut oil or a dab of petroleum-free hairball gel can help pass them more easily. Brushing regularly is the best long-term prevention.
Vomiting
Occasional vomiting is normal, but frequent episodes may indicate food intolerance. Try a limited-ingredient or grain-free food. Slippery elm bark powder may soothe the digestive tract.
Feline UTI
Urinary tract issues are often linked to stress or diet. Offer wet food for better hydration and consider cranberry extract supplements made for cats. Always rule out infection with a vet first.
Dental Issues
Bad breath or tartar buildup may benefit from raw meaty bones (for experienced raw feeders) or dental chews. Coconut oil rubbed on gums can help reduce bacteria.
Allergies
Common symptoms include itchy skin or watery eyes. Switching to a novel protein diet or hypoallergenic food may reduce reactions. Quercetin (a natural antihistamine) can be given under vet guidance.
